On the 19th and 20th March 2019, the study visit of the Future Ecom project took place in Kotka, Finland, hosted by the finish partners Cursor Oy and The Regional Council of Kymenlaakso. The main theme of the event was e-procurement and was held at the Maritime Centre Vellamo. After a welcome introduction by the host partners, talks from several experts were presented including Google Finland´s view on the future of e-procurement, the example of a successful trading platform – Suppilog, Blockchains in Logistics by Kouvola Innovation ltd, Cyber security by XAMK followed by an example of “Tinder”-like platform for procurement needs by the Finnhub association. The day was filled with very informative presentations and very interesting discussions between all attendants.
On the second day, the Future Ecom partners had a site visit of the mobile game developer Nitro Games Oy. This was a very good showcase of the mobile game industry in Kotka, and the incentive for such companies to operate in that region. The refreshing view of a fast-growing company based on digital technologies, gave the partners a very good insight on digitalisation capacity for SMEs.
Partners enjoyed a social visit of the Maritime museum before continuing the very important discussions on e-procurement good practices and what other partner regions sharing of experiences understanding the SMEs perceived barriers, benefits of implementing e-procurement. The role of intermediaries and recommendations for policy makers were also discussed to close these very fruitful study visit and workshops in Kotka.
